I spent years reading the Bible as if every door were already standing open. I treated a verse I could not feel as a verse that had failed me. The day that changed, one line rearranged everything. The cloak, I came to see, was God keeping a thing safe until I had grown enough to carry it. Concealment turned out to be a form of mercy.
Solomon says it without apology. "It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter" (Proverbs 25:2, NKJV). Read that twice. Hiding and searching sit together in this verse as two halves of one design. God receives glory by covering a thing. Kings, the verse says, receive glory by digging for it. The same truth that stays sealed to a lazy heart gets handed to a hungry one.
For a long stretch the locked feeling made me doubt my own reading. I assumed the problem was my intelligence. The real problem was my timing, and timing carries no shame. A matter can be true, written, and underlined in my Bible, and still wait for the season when I am able to receive it. Daniel lived inside that delay. He was told to seal the words until the appointed time, and he still confessed that God "reveals deep and secret things" (Daniel 2:22, NKJV). The deep things were always present. The opening ran on a schedule.
Job describes the same mechanism from the far side of suffering. God "uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings the shadow of death to light" (Job 12:22, NKJV). The material that once frightened me turned out to be storage. Darkness in Scripture often works as a vault. Isaiah heard God promise "the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places" (Isaiah 45:3, NKJV), and a treasure stays frightening only as long as you mistake the strongroom for a grave.
So here is the first rule I want to hand you before we walk through the rest. A cloaked scripture is an appointment, sealed for a season and set to open on time. Moses drew the boundary for us. "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children" (Deuteronomy 29:29, NKJV). I receive the revealed, I keep searching like a king, and I leave the secret things in the hands that scheduled them. The search itself is the honor God assigns to me.
That is the posture this book asks of you. Come hungry, come patient, and come willing to act on what opens. When understanding finally arrives, it will come as an assignment, and the next page is where the first one begins.
