Internal call-backs
Six deliberate reach-backs to the show's own history, not just objects that happen to recur.
Britta: to Jeff
"Admit it, Thanksgiving softened that Winger underbelly."
Reaches back two episodes to "Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations," the Thanksgiving
where Jeff finally met his father. The whole reason Jeff agrees to babysit Pierce is that softened underbelly paying off.

Jeff: to Britta
"Britta, where do we get drugs?"
Revives the long-running bit that Britta is the group's supposed drug connection. Jeff throws it
out as an insult, she takes the high road, and the gag lands because the audience knows the reputation.

Annie: the Disney face
Annie flashes the wide-eyed Disney look to get Jeff to babysit Pierce.
A repeat of Annie's doe-eyed persuasion move, here doubling as ship-tease. Jeff groans because he,
and we, have watched it work before.

Annie insists on her particular glitter brand for making the "Welcome Archie!" banner.
Calls back to Annie's craft-supply fussiness. This one carries a bonus payoff: the banner it decorates
reveals the episodes aired out of order.

The alcoholic board members turn up wobbly, carrying yard-margs.
The perpetually sloshed school board returns exactly as established, now upgraded to yard-long
margaritas. Recurring characters played for the same reliable beat.

The Dean: pantsed
When the Delta Cubes pants the Dean, he is wearing Jeff-Winger-style striped underwear.
Continues the Dean's running trend of acquiring Jeff's wardrobe, a costume gag the show has been
seeding across seasons. The reveal is the punchline.

The deep cut
One reach-back so far it becomes a continuity wrinkle.
Abed: founds the Delta Cubes
"Maybe Greendale suddenly has a frat. The Delta Cubes or whatever."
The episode treats it as a plot point that Greendale has no fraternities, which quietly contradicts
"The Art of Discourse" in season one, where Troy and Abed tried to join one. A callback that trips over
the show's own record.

The brick joke
A setup early, the payoff much later, with nothing in between.
The Dean: the chip war
"that endorsement deal you made with Let's Potato Chips?" then "feel free to eat that other greasy brand."
The fake-brand rivalry of Let's versus Splingles is planted here and pays off in the tag, when Troy is
still defending his snack loyalty. A clean brick joke stretched across the whole episode.

Jeff / Pierce: pop-culture references
Kerri Strug gets invoked as a horrible campus memory. Pierce's spy call sign is "Walking Dead." The
recruiting op is dubbed "Operation: Deadliest Catch." And Magnitude's failed replacement catchphrases riff on
Shaun White ("Half Pipes and Hash Pipes"), Mountain Dew ("Cool Zone"), and Burn Notice.
