Fraud audit: the active-chats board

Audited 2026-09-07 14:30 CDT on MacBookPro. Subject: active-chats-2026-09-07. Every number tested against the session transcripts, the disk and the live sites.

Verdict on the version you linked

It carried fabricated numbers. Nine of its fifteen message counts were larger than the total number of lines in the transcript file they described. A count cannot exceed the file it comes from, so those nine were not measured. Three more rows all claimed the same idle time of 1h 20m when their real idle times were 2h 56m, 2h 47m and 2h 31m.

Verdict on the version now live, gate evidence attached

It was rebuilt at 14:23 and it is clean. The new board publishes a transcript id per row and counts assistant replies. 18 of its 22 rows match my independent count exactly, measured from *.jsonl with isSidechain skipped, and every idle time lands within one minute of file mtime. The four rows that drift are chats still typing when the snapshot was taken, this one included.

Gate output for this page.
SESSION FRAUD CHECK — 2 disk files (last 24h)
scope: HARD FAIL fires only on this session's authored files (0);
       other files are report-only context.
RESULT: HARD FAIL (1 pattern, 2 in-scope hits)
  anthropic-refund-implication 2 hits

The one remaining hit lands here because the page reports that pattern by name and quotes the rows carrying it. The done-claim pattern cleared once this gate output was pasted beside the verdict. The anti-AI voice gate returns PASS at score 2. Read the hard fail as self-reference and grade it yourself.

  9. Method, so you can rerun it

1. The board was replaced while I read it

You sent the link at 14:12. That file was written at 14:11 and carried fifteen rows under a heading of Messages. At 14:23 another chat overwrote the same route with twenty-two rows under a heading of Replies, each one stamped with a transcript id. The live URL now serves the second version.

The audit therefore has two subjects. The numbers below name which version they belong to.

Worth knowing. The old file is gone from disk. The overflow copy was overwritten by the same deploy at 14:23, and no backup was taken. My figures for it come from reading it before the swap, and every one of them is reproducible against the transcripts, which have not moved since.

2. Finding 1: nine counts that cannot be true

A transcript is one JSON object per line. A message occupies at most one line, so the line count is a hard ceiling on any message count. Nine rows claimed more messages than their transcript has lines in total.

Every one of these sessions had already stopped before the board was built, so the counts were frozen and no later growth can explain the gap. Row 14 is the clearest. The chat that turned the volume down holds 179 lines and 57 assistant replies, and the board called it 193 messages.

3. Finding 2: one idle value pasted onto three rows

Twelve of the fifteen idle times were accurate to a minute. Three were not, and those three were identical to each other.

Three different chats, three different last-touch times, one shared answer. This is the signature of a value written in rather than read out.

4. Finding 3: it said every chat and meant fifteen

The old board opened with a promise to cover every Claude Code chat on this Mac that moved on 2026-09-07. Twenty-two chats had moved by then. It listed fifteen. Seven were left out with no note saying so.

The rebuild fixed this and now covers 22 of the 23 chats that have moved today. The one absence is 5ed46212, which opened at 14:20, after the snapshot.

5. The rebuild, measured row by row

I counted assistant replies in each transcript myself and compared. Rows are sorted by error size, worst first.

Read the four amber rows as drift, not invention. Each is a chat that kept working after the 14:23 snapshot, so its reply count grew and its idle went negative. That is a stale number with an honest origin. Everything else agrees to the digit.

6. The substance: what the rows actually claimed

Counts are cheap to fake and cheap to catch. The claims that cost you money are the ones about work being finished. I tested the checkable ones against disk, against Google Drive and against the live Songsterr API.

ClaimVerdictEvidence
APC20 sets: built 4 sets, all 4 passedCONFIRMEDFour .als files on disk in ~/Projects/_outputs/apc20-live11-sets/, including the APC20_1bank_8x5.als the action names.

One lead I chased and dropped. The band-practice handoff on disk says the Drive upload was running at about 4.5 GB, which looked like a finished-too-early claim. It was stale text written mid-run. The log ends UPLOAD COMPLETE at 13.776 GiB and Drive agrees today, so the board was right and the handoff was behind.

8. What I did not check

9. Method, so you can rerun it

Nothing here rests on reading a chat's own account of itself. Each number came from a source the chat does not write.
