Restart to install the staged macOS update

macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 is already downloaded and waiting. /System/Volumes/Update holds 12 GB, with mnt1 alone at 12 GB touched at 04:14. tmutil shows a MSUPrepareUpdate snapshot. The install reclaims that space and applies a recommended update.

This is why free space fell from 2.20 GB to 0.18 GB in twenty-five minutes with zero files modified under your home and no process above 15% CPU.

Step 2 · frees 17.55 GB · your call, already staged

Empty the two delete folders

~/Downloads/delete holds 10.19 GB of three aborted Chrome downloads. They froze at 02:25 and 02:29, the exact minutes the volume filled, and are verified dead: byte-identical across a six-second sample, and no process holds them open. ~/Music/Band-Practice/delete holds 7.36 GB you had already retired.

Step 3 · repairs retrieval for every session

Install ollama and build the indexes

search_index_gate.py is wired. It blocks raw grep and find over the big trees and prescribes /ask as the remedy. /ask returns zero results for everything. Live test tonight: embed unavailable, Errno 61 Connection refused, semantic layers skipped, then 0 relevant cited results.

DONE 2026-09-02 13:1x. ollama-app 0.33.2 installed from the prebuilt cask, server answering 200 on localhost:11434, nomic-embed-text pulled, and 1,457 chunks indexed from 756 memory files. /ask "slant rhyme" now returns a cited hit at score 0.668 in 1.7s, against 0 results all night.

Correction: this step previously said no embedding index existed at all. That was checked at the wrong path. ask.py line 33 sets SHARED to ~/.claude/skills/_shared, not /Users/Shared. corpus and domain indexes existed since May and June; only the memory index was missing. The single real cause was ollama being absent, which makes every semantic layer skip.

Step 4 · turns on five gates that have never fired

Wire the dark hooks

produce_dont_just_report_gate.py was written on 2026-09-01. Its own docstring quotes you: "why did you stp" and "make a plan so that you don't stop like that ever ever efver ever again". It has never run once. Four more sit dark beside it: no_idle_stop_gate, fraud_eval_prompt, pre_ship_voice_check, quit_gate_wrapper.

All five were never wired, not shelved. Each scores zero across both settings backups and the current file, so no earlier decision is being reversed. The wiring script is idempotent, takes a timestamped backup, and re-parses or dies.

Step 5 · stops the duplicated compute

Close the extra sessions

Five Claude sessions are running against one shared queue with no ownership convention, and they collide. One fired a Khanoisseur recovery pass at 02:06 that recovered zero rows; a second session repeated the same investigation at 02:5x. Heavy jobs from one session filled the disk while another watched.
