dude the score is
[Music]
amazing I love
[Music]
the something about that I just love it
but I got to find there's there's this
other part I know I know it's in there
where it's like it's like
[Music]
[Applause]
um something like
[Music]
that there it is
[Music]
and
then C major
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
why is that so
gorgeous oh well I know
why
because flat six it's because this chord
is flat six
chord but the it the way that he
arranged it I think has something to do
with it too because
normally a flat six chord comes from
from below so you would go
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
like like that it's so much closer to
this chord the fact that he stacked it
way up high and you can kind of feel the
overlap of them
[Music]
[Applause]
What notes do you hear like sticking out
I feel like it's
[Music]
the so
weird I'm hearing the oh it's the top
note I'm hearing the top note that's not
weird at all they are actually related
so if
I play this chord the c major chord down
here
look the E and the g are in
common right but he's not accentuating
their commonness he's separating them
so it sounds more like
[Music]
this this relationship I feel like is is
worth
mentioning this half step
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
oh that's the thing I remember about the
Matrix there's so much good stuff going
on in this score and I recognize it once
I heard it but that's the thing that
sticks with me what about you what about
this
one that chord that chord feels familiar
I think a lot of the power of the score
lies in these like
swells cuz they feel like they're coming
up from behind you and they're just
like and then they're right there I feel
like that motion is even like in the
movie A lot like that
[Music]
like something in this vicinity
[Applause]
really really pretty
[Music]
[Laughter]
[Music]
gorgeous that almost sounds like one of
those Japanese pentatonic skills that my
friend Sam taught me like inen it's
super beautiful and mysterious sound
[Music]
sounding oh yeah and that I heard a horn
later in the score doing that exact same
Rhythm that that percussive element was
doing it's increasing in subdivisions
which Danny car does in a tool song
that whatever so this
goes listen
now that one probably wasn't scored like
exactly the notes but the horns later
they actually you can hear them going D
D D D D D D D D D D D D D and they go
through the subdivisions but I feel like
that's
reminiscent super high super
low puts you right in the
[Music]
middle now
okay so there's strings and piano here
and they are not playing in unison
they're playing the same Rhythm but they
have different parts they're all around
the same note groupings but there's just
like sort of this almost chaotic
random convalescence of
[Music]
them
[Music]
this
similar uh
arrangement in terms of the where has
these sort of these note groupings same
rhythms but there are multiple voices
and they are not always in unison and
they kind of fall out of phase with each
other and sometimes they syn up and
sometimes they don't
[Music]
um these notes
[Music]
maybe then around with each
[Music]
other and then those horns again
yes and that's clearly a call back to
the um you
[Music]
know but it's like distorted and
something very wrong because now they're
two minor chords separated by this
trione and it feels like what's going on
they're lower too doesn't sound nearly
as pure and like uh Majestic it's kind
of like
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
H and totally in a different key than
this so that's
just free your mind
[Music]
so many incredible fast changing
vignettes I mean I remember the music
being very effective or is it just a way
of making you feel like this world is
all patchworked together or
something Sentinels
oh the horns oh yes okay this is this is
a thematic development of the two horn
cords the horn chords now they're sort
of
stuttering and which chords though are
they oh I mean it sounds pretty
[Music]
dissonant maybe those
two maybe there's some dissonance
[Music]
ah that theme's
back
[Music]
D I wonder what that represents in the
movie Saving Morpheus
[Music]
I think that's when morphe is getting up
listen to how triumphant that sounds
that it's probably a French
horn
[Music]
piano I feel like we've heard those
notes
[Music]
before that feels I mean you're
literally rising up right so the music's
going up he's getting up but these
groupings that du
[Music]
da I love that
pattern strength and then is really like
feels you feel that like
[Music]
motivation and you pattern
[Music]
yeah horns the horns they call so these
are the next thematic development of the
horns there's dissonance inside the
[Music]
chords I love that
[Music]
fluts oh my
gosh see this is powerful because a lot
of the score is pretty a tonal and you
know kind kind of harmonically smashy
and chromatic on purpose
but this moment is really important and
the music is starting to become Co the
harmony is starting to become very
cohesive so first there's this minor
chord again it has that feeling of like
chord cord swell swell but the second
time it's going to
go
to to this major for chord which is like
a warm hug at this
[Music]
point there it is my horns
[Music]
you remember this moment
right okay this is so cool so you get
this big brassy warm triumphant strong
and certain major
cord and then they layer on top of it
that like faltering
which earlier in the movie meant things
were not okay you know Neo it must be a
Neo theme you know he's uncertain but
now it just sounds beautiful and here's
why so let's
see okay so then that must be this major
chord
[Music]
okay this is such a film sound and I
absolutely love it you got this major
[Music]
chord and then you put a flat six
note and it resolves to the
[Music]
fifth like how many times have you heard
that right it's and you'll hear it again
because it's so good but that's kind of
the feeling you get here
[Music]
so it transforms what used to sound
really really
shaky in a minor
context
sorry
so now it's just it's huge
mcquire uh
major but still those vi those strings
are sort of out
of sync with each other and where they
are in the
[Music]
part I just realized that I wrote
something that sounds just like
that here I'll play it for you it's like
an intro to an album or something that
I'm going to do called finally same key
[Music]
well I guess that's probably what
inspired me
maybe now the bullets drop
right and the agent is like oh fuck they
don't make soundtracks like this
[Music]
anymore REM of that
[Music]
cord
ooh something very bad is going on oh
the
squidy the French horn SS
like a
[Music]
ghost pretty
flat six
[Music]
cord
this now I think that is a
bassoon this is the part where he's like
walking and he's kind of going like he's
starting to talk to you
right you see on the screen
[Music]
it's kind of those notes from
the part from before but then
listen
strings super rhythmic
[Music]
horn
[Music]
swells okay but the but the note the
DU okay so you got this and then
feels very reminiscent of the swell from
before yeah cuz it because the
[Music]
bases and that half
step for sure it
is
Major oo ooh
wait where' the major come from hang on
[Music]
major
[Music]
the horns
