like kind of cleans up in terms of
accessibility but but first part is just

and then they just wrote it down and
practiced it until they had a down pat

you know it's like chaos and there's
like these little moments of silence and
then Mike's like
oh my God it's amazing that's not pretty
tight I mean it is really right I mean
their drummer is probably one of the
best in the world isn't that crazy yeah

um I always thought they were like just
from the name like an emo band or like a
screamo band so just like yeah but uh
let's listen to One some band names are
really deceptive like I always thought
My Bloody Valentine was going to be
really cheesy like 14 year old like
scene stir goth girl music like
Evanescence or something or like My
Chemical Romance but no my my bloody
Valentine's really good they're like a
one of the original shoegaze bands very
cool yeah I mean not that those other
bands are bad it's just not my cup of
tea so listen to what kind of what can
happen with the Dillinger Escape Plan
when they kind of what happened what
happened when they moved to more melodic
and more harmonically kind of Rich uh
more I would say simpler right rhythmic
structures
um that's always fun to see when a
Prague band
does something like that they do it well
it kind of you can see what's behind
that you know what I mean yes and it's
interesting because it's like
when you have that much talent and you
choose to make something that's pretty
inaccessible it's like that shows a lot
of Integrity right you know it shows
that you're trying to say something
specific rather than just trying to
appeal to the audience which I think is
what usually kills bands over time yeah
and they have a very dedicated fan base
as a result you know that's what
happened if a band if they stay on the
track of just expressing what they want
to express how they see best fit to
express that they usually have a fan
base that will stay with them for the
rest of their life but it's smaller
whereas a band that tries to write stuff
that appeals to Their audience base the
base will grow exponentially but then it
will kind of like Peter out so this is
this is the first
the Dillinger dangerous plant song I
ever heard
and it's got
um Mike Larson on piano who played piano
for David Bowie also was featured on
some nine channels albums yeah I
remember and he's really a great
improvisational jazz pianist
so that's who's on piano here check this

um 70s Jazz modal Jazz Miles Davis and
um McCoy Tyner is The Pianist that well
he played with a ton of people but it
kind of gives a flavor to that era of
jazz you know different areas of jazz
will have different kind of flavors
because of tropes that kind of become
popular during that time period and
moving around fourth Faith voicings was
definitely like that period of model
Jazz stuff because it sounded really new
at the time because no one was doing
that chords were all thirds you know
like yeah you would move mortal Harmony
do like a third but then he was like
well we can just do this

it sounds kind of old but it sounded new
and it's like kind of taking something
from like plane chant or whatever like
uh I guess a little later than playing
like renaissance music which would have
a lot of thoughts
but then putting that into modern
context made it sound really fresh I
love I I love it I think it sounds so
cool it's so ambiguous it's beautiful
floaty and like
just something about it it's got this
Jagged Edge to it that I really like
yeah and fifths do the kind of similar
thing to me they're both very like bold
sounding to me like they're kind of just
like pure boldness you know yeah they're
strong it's just yeah it's strong but it
doesn't really have a flavor it's like a
like a backbone it's like the skeleton
or something that's exactly I love that
yeah that's exactly how I feel like
they're structural in a way yeah it's
like the frame of a house yes it's like
oh nice that's a strong foundation for
your house but it's not a house yet
right yeah yeah that's so cool but if
you put them into context like if you
move it around like that every once in a
while you'll you'll get a tritone or
something and so it breaks it up in the
context it gives it it does have like a
flavor
