What the numbers say

2012 is a strong year with a very high peak. The 8/31 Dick’s show (the “S” night of the three-night set-list stunt, with a monster Rock and Roll) sits at 4.585, good enough to land third on the 2015 board. But that is the only 2012 show that would rank inside 2015’s top three. From the number-two seed on down, 2015 is denser, and the whole Magnaball run at Watkins Glen (8/21, 8/22, 8/23) plus the Northeast summer sweep gives 2015 more high-4.5 nights than 2012 can field. The gap of 0.063 average points looks small, and it is decisive across ten straight matchups.
2012 had one really great show (August 31 in Colorado). But 2015 had a whole weekend of great shows at a place called Watkins Glen, plus more strong ones all summer. So even though the best 2012 show was close to the best 2015 shows, 2015 had more good ones stacked up. That is why it won every matchup.
